This Privacy Policy explains how Urban Proto ("we", "us") handles information when you use the Urban Proto mobile app and services.

Information we collect

Account details — your name, email address, and an encrypted password, provided when you register.
Device data — the smart-home devices you link, their names, channel labels, and on/off state, so the app can display them and carry out the on/off commands you send.
Technical data — basic connection information required to deliver real-time updates.

How we use it

Solely to operate the service: authenticating you, showing your devices, relaying your control commands, sharing access with people you choose, and sending you activity notifications. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Bluetooth & location

The app uses Bluetooth to discover nearby Urban Proto devices during setup. On Android 11 and older, the operating system requires location permission in order to scan for Bluetooth devices; on Android 12 and above we declare that Bluetooth scanning is never used to derive your physical location. We do not collect or store location data.

Sharing

Device access is shared only with the specific users you invite by email. We do not share your personal data with third parties except as required to run the service or comply with law.

Your rights

You may request access to, or correction or deletion of, your personal data, and you may withdraw consent at any time. You can delete your account and its data yourself in the app, or by contacting us using the details below.

Data retention & deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the app (Profile → Settings → Delete Account), or by emailing us. Deleting your account removes your profile, sessions, and unlinks your devices.

Children

Urban Proto is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a child without verifiable parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Security is built into the product:

Encrypted connections — traffic between the app, our servers, and your devices is encrypted while in transit.
End-to-end encrypted setup — when you first pair a device over Bluetooth, the exchange is encrypted directly between your phone and the device, so your Wi-Fi credentials are never exposed to us or anyone else.
Protected accounts — passwords are stored only in hashed form, and email verification helps confirm it's really you.
Signed device updates — firmware updates are cryptographically signed and verified, so a device only installs genuine Urban Proto software.
Access isolation — your devices can be seen and controlled only by you and the people you explicitly invite.
